You are Invited: Tuesday, April 28th, 2009 Mercer Island High School

Breakfast Link: tinyurl/misfbreak

The Mercer Island Schools Foundation invites you to partner in promoting great schools with a sponsorship for "The Breakfast of Champions" an extraordinary community event.

Become a Sponsor, Angel, Table Captain or our Guest

The world around us is changing and the demand for educational transformation is upon us. Our students face a new workforce for tomorrow driven by increasing global integration, demographic change and technological innovation. Mercer Island students require additional skills to compete in the 21st century: to this end, the Foundation, in partnership with local businesses is tasked with ensuring that our schools have the necessary resources to guarantee our classrooms evolve, students are engaged in learning and teachers have the opportunity to further develop their teaching skills.

"The Breakfast of Champions" a showcase event is designed specifically to incorporate business and community leader's support. Sponsorships provide your company maximum recognition in the local community and surrounding areas. In addition, your company will receive direct exposure to five hundred of the area's most influential leaders and community supporters attending the "Breakfast of Champions."

The Breakfast Committee's goal is to have all of our Sponsors, Angels and
Table Captains in place
by March 31st.

Thank you for your thoughtful consideration of this request. Your support will provide resources for educational transformation and place Mercer Island Schools at the top of the list when it comes to providing rich, engaging, educational, experiences for our youth.

Sincerely,
Penny A. Yantis, Executive Director

Mercer Island School District's 2020 VISION

During the winter and spring of 2008, subcommittees were engaged in developing a Really Big Idea that might be the driving force for a new direction for the Mercer Island School District. Dr. Plano facilitated conversations that eventually led up to the development of a NEW 2020 Vision for learning.

The school board adopted the 2020 Vision at the August 7th, 2008 board meeting.

"SUCCESSFULLY PREPARING STUDENTS FOR THE COGNITIVE, GLOBAL AND DIGITAL WORLD"

The world is changing and the demand for educational transformation is upon us. Our students face a new workforce of tomorrow driven by increasing global integration, demographic change and technological innovation. Mercer Island Students require additional skills to compete in the 21st Century.

The Mercer Island Schools Foundation in partnership with the Mercer Island community of parents and businesses is tasked with ensuring that our schools have the necessary resources to guarantee our classrooms evolve, students are engaged and teachers have the opportunity to further their teaching skills.

Our school district cannot do it alone! Insufficient State and Federal dollars will not get the job done. Your donation to the Mercer Island Schools Foundation will provide rich engaging learning experiences for our youth.

Thank you!

The Mercer Island Schools Foundation raises money to supplement the school district budget and to provide much needed supplies and materials to all five schools and Crest as well as $70,000 in Teacher Enrichment Grants.

The sad truth is that the state budget simply under funds education which is what makes our job so critical. Just to briefly illustrate the problem:

  • Washington state ranks #42nd in per student state funding (Education Week, a national education publication)
  • Our school district does not currently receive enough money from the state to even cover transportation costs.

Without the Mercer Island Schools Foundation, the Mercer Island School District would have to reduce the number of teachers it hires just to provide classroom basics and buses. This is why we need your help.

The Mercer Island Schools Foundation raises money in two ways:

  • Phone-a-Thon in October
  • The Community Business Breakfast in March.

We would like to invite you to support the Mercer Island Schools by saying. "yes" to becoming a sponsor, angel, table captain or guest at the Breakfast on March 25th.

Show your support for excellence in education. Please Join Us!
